Ground Worker
Supporting skilled tradespeople with the aim of helping successful and timely completion of a project, tasks include general groundworks; excavation, drainage, foundations, etc.
Must have
- An understanding of site health and safety
- Experience working in building and construction (heritage construction preferred)
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to work on your own
- Clean, valid driving licence
- Self-employed must be CIS registered.
Steel Fixer
- Read and interpret construction drawings and reinforcement schedules.
- Measure, cut, bend, and shape reinforcing steel bars and mesh.
- Assemble and tie reinforcement cages using tying wire, clips, or welding where required.
- Position and secure reinforcement according to engineering specifications.
- Install spacers, chairs, and supports to maintain correct concrete cover.
- Check reinforcement placement for accuracy before concrete is poured.
- Use hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Work alongside engineers, supervisors, and other construction trades.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including the correct use of PPE.
- Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
- Report defects, shortages, or safety concerns to supervisors.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience as a steelfixer or in reinforced concrete construction.
- Ability to read technical drawings and reinforcement plans.
- Good mathematical and measuring skills.
- Knowledge of steel reinforcement methods and construction practices.
- Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy materials and work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid CSCS card (or equivalent, depending on location) is typically required.
