Job Summary;
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious individual to join our Research & Development team while undertaking a fully funded BSc (Hons) Chemical Science degree through Manchester Metropolitan University.
This is a four-year development programme designed to combine academic learning with hands-on industrial experience. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, improvement, and testing of Perspex® and Asterite® acrylic sheet products while gaining practical laboratory and product development expertise.
The role offers structured progression, full tuition fee support, and one dedicated study day per week as part of a 37.5-hour working week.
Key Responsibilities;
- Support the development and formulation of Perspex® and Asterite® acrylic sheet products.
- Assist in improving existing product performance, quality, and sustainability.
- Conduct research to enhance material properties such as durability, clarity, weather resistance, and processing performance.
- Contribute to innovation projects aligned with business and customer requirements.
- Carry out laboratory experiments, trials, and testing in accordance with standard procedures.
- Record, analyse, and interpret experimental data accurately.
- Prepare samples and assist in scale-up trials from laboratory to pilot or production scale.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
- Prepare technical reports and present findings to the R&D team.
- Use analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate product or process issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through data-driven recommendations.
- Successfully complete the BSc (Hons) Chemical Science programme.
- Apply academic knowledge directly to workplace projects.
- Participate in structured development reviews and progression planning.
- Collaborate with colleagues across R&D, production, quality, and commercial teams.

Apprenticeship Programme;
· Duration: 4 years
· Qualification: BSc (Hons) Chemical Science
· Delivery: Distance learning with one study day per week
· Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (including one allocated study day)

· Progression: Structured career development within R&D upon successful completion
Requirements
- 3 A Levels (or equivalent), including Chemistry (minimum 104 UCAS points).
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English at Grade 4 (C) or above.
- Strong analytical and numerical ability.
- Logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- IT literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office, data recording and analysis tools).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Genuine interest in materials science, polymer chemistry, or product innovation.
- Practical laboratory experience (academic or work-based).
- Organised with the ability to manage time effectively between work and study commitments.
- Proactive, curious, and eager to learn.
