Purpose of the Role
The Bar Supervisor will support the day-to-day running of the clubhouse bar operation, ensuring excellent customer service and a welcoming atmosphere for members, guests, and visitors.
In the absence of the Clubhouse Manager, the Bar Supervisor will deputise and assist with operational duties including cellar management, stock control, supplier liaison, staff supervision, and cash handling.
The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining high service standards while helping to promote the club positively within the local community.
Key Responsibilities
Bar Operations & Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service to all members, guests, and visitors.
- Prepare and serve beverages efficiently while maintaining club standards.
- Ensure guests receive prompt, courteous, and professional service at all times.
- Handle customer queries and resolve complaints in a calm and professional manner.
- Promote additional sales opportunities and upselling where appropriate.
- Maintain a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive clubhouse atmosphere.
- Keep up to date with current promotions, events, and new products.
Licensing, Compliance & Operational Responsibility
- The successful candidate must hold a valid Personal Licence under the Licensing Act 2003.
- Support the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) and Clubhouse Manager in ensuring that bar operations are conducted in accordance with the Club’s premises licence, licensing requirements, health and safety legislation, and Club policies.
- Ensure that responsible alcohol service procedures are followed at all times, including appropriate age verification and the responsible management of customers who are intoxicated or behaving inappropriately.
- Ensure bar staff are familiar with and follow the Club’s licensing and alcohol service procedures.
- Report any licensing concerns, incidents, refusals of service, accidents, complaints or other significant issues promptly to the DPS and/or Clubhouse Manager.
- Assist the DPS and Clubhouse Manager with maintaining appropriate records and ensuring that the bar operation remains compliant with the conditions of the Club’s premises licence.
Team Leadership & Staff Management
- Supervise bar staff during shifts and delegate duties effectively.
- Provide guidance and support to team members to maintain consistent service standards.
- Assist with training and onboarding of new and existing staff.
- Monitor staff performance and encourage a positive team environment.
- Coordinate shift changeovers and ensure adequate operational cover at all times.
Operational Oversight
- Deputise for the Clubhouse Manager during periods of absence.
- Assist with deliveries, stock ordering, supplier communication, and external partnership support.
- Take responsibility for effective cellar management and stock rotation.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures depending on shift requirements.
- Carry out end-of-shift cashing up procedures accurately.
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation standards across the bar, clubhouse front-of-house areas, and toilet facilities.
- Record external booking enquiries and maintain diary updates for the Clubhouse Manager to follow up.
Inventory & Stock Control
- Monitor stock levels and assist with placing orders.
- Conduct regular stocktakes and maintain accurate stock records.
- Minimise wastage and ensure products are rotated correctly.
- Maintain agreed stock levels to support smooth day-to-day operations.
Club Support & Community Engagement
- Represent the club in a positive, professional, and enthusiastic manner at all times.
- Support and participate in club fundraising initiatives, social events, and matchday activities.
- Promote the values and reputation of Grasshoppers RFC within the local community.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous bar supervisory or hospitality experience preferred.
- Must hold a valid Personal Licence
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility when managing shifts.
- Good organisational, leadership, and cash-handling skills.
- Knowledge of cellar management and licensing regulations is desirable.
- Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends, and club events.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a busy environment.

Pay: £25,420.00-£28,000.00 per year
