Parker Smith Inclusion is proud to be working in partnership with a dedicated and nurturing SEMH school in Chelmsford, seeking a passionate, resilient and committed Learning Mentor to join their team from September 2026.

The Role
As a Learning Mentor, you’ll play a key role in supporting pupils with SEMH needs to engage with education, manage the challenges of the school day and develop the confidence they need to succeed.
This is a highly relationship-driven role where your ability to build trust and provide consistent support will be just as important as your ability to support learning.
You’ll work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team, providing encouragement, structure and a safe, consistent presence for pupils who may have previously struggled within education.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Building strong, positive relationships that help pupils feel safe, valued and understood.
- Encouraging pupils to engage with learning and develop their confidence.
- Providing mentoring and emotional support throughout the school day.
- Helping pupils develop positive coping strategies and emotional regulation skills.
- Breaking down barriers to learning and helping pupils recognise their strengths.
- Supporting pupils during transitions, unstructured periods and challenging moments.
- Encouraging independence, resilience and positive decision-making.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.
- Providing clear boundaries and positive reinforcement when required.
- Celebrating progress, no matter how small, and helping pupils recognise their achievements.
Who This Role Is Perfect For
You might come from education, youth work, coaching, care, sports, mentoring or support work — but your previous job title is less important than your approach.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Calm, patient and emotionally resilient.
- Naturally supportive and able to build trust with young people.
- Consistent and reliable, particularly when situations become challenging.
- A strong communicator who can adapt their approach to individual pupils.
- Passionate about helping young people overcome barriers.
- Positive, proactive and willing to get stuck in.
- Comfortable working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
- Committed to helping pupils develop both academically and personally.
A degree or previous experience within education is welcome but not essential. Your attitude, commitment and willingness to learn are what matter most.
