Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Construction Estimator/Buyer to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the successful procurement of materials and services, accurately estimating project costs, and managing supplier relationships. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced setting, leveraging their technical expertise and negotiation skills to drive project success from initial estimate through material acquisition.
Duties
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects by analysing the employers requirements documents , specifications, and project scope.
- Sending our sub-contract enquiries to ensure the estimate is market tested and packaging these up to pass onto the project surveyor post contract.
- Source and select suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating prices and terms to secure the best value for the company.
- Coordinate logistics and supply chain activities to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to job sites.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop budgets, schedules, and procurement strategies aligned with project goals.
- Review and process purchase orders within ERP systems, ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to optimize pricing, quality, and delivery schedules.
Skills
- Proficiency in computer systems such are Microsoft office, excel, project and other basic programmes.
- Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of logistics and supply chain management within the construction industry.
- Experience with merchandising practices related to construction materials procurement.
- Familiarity with construction estimating tools and techniques.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively across teams and vendors.
- Ability to analyze technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation accurately.
Experience:
- Must have experience in main contractor operations but also a strong understanding of construction principles from the ground up.
