Position: Multi-Skilled Building Services Engineer – Mechanical/Plumbing Bias

Working Hours: 36 hours per week
Pay Rate: £24.50 per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on commercial plumbing, heating and mechanical systems
- Diagnose faults and complete repairs to plumbing, heating and mechanical equipment
- Maintain pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, calorifiers, booster sets, valves and associated plant
- Maintain domestic hot and cold-water systems
- Service TMVs and support water hygiene and Legionella control activities within competence
- Carry out minor mechanical installation and remedial works
- Identify root causes of faults and recommend solutions to prevent repeat failures
- Record inspections, faults, materials and completed works accurately using the CAFM system and mobile technology
- Update jobs live while attending sites, including findings, actions and any follow-on requirements
- Manage and prioritise allocated PPM and reactive maintenance work
- Work safely in occupied schools, children's centres, community buildings and corporate properties
- Complete dynamic risk assessments and follow permit-to-work and site safety procedures
- Communicate professionally with school staff, building users, contractors and colleagues
- Maintain the work vehicle, tools and equipment
- Support the wider M&E team where competent
- Mentor and support a plumbing apprentice for approximately three days per week, including explaining tasks, demonstrating safe working practices, checking completed work and supporting technical development
- Have sufficient electrical awareness to identify basic faults and know when specialist electrical support is required
Person Specification:
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent recognised qualification in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering or Building Services
- Substantial practical experience in commercial plumbing and mechanical maintenance
- Experience maintaining heating systems, pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels, calorifiers and associated plant
- Experience delivering both PPM and reactive maintenance
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Experience working independently in occupied buildings
- Full valid UK driving licence
- Ability and willingness to mentor a plumbing apprentice
- Competent using tablets/mobile devices and CAFM systems for accurate job records
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Able to provide 3 years of references/work history
- Willing to complete the required declaration of interest and health declaration/questionnaire
- Good communication, reliability and professional customer-service skills
- Strong commitment to health and safety and working within technical competence

- Unvented hot-water certification
- Water Hygiene or Legionella Awareness

- BMS awareness
- HVAC/AHU maintenance experience
- Booster pump maintenance
