ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR – JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
To support the Supervisor in the effective management of Rudgwick Pre-school, ensuring that all legal requirements and quality standards are consistently met. The Deputy Supervisor will provide ongoing supervision and support to the staff team, act as the senior member of staff in the Supervisor’s absence, and work directly with children as part of the team.
General Responsibilities
- Support the efficient day-to-day running of the pre-school and the delivery of a high‑quality service.
- Ensure the pre-school provides a safe, caring and stimulating learning environment, indoors and outdoors, at every session.
- Support the planning and delivery of an appropriate, play‑based EYFS curriculum that enables each child to make individual progress.
- Ensure planning reflects the needs of all children.
- Support the pre-school in meeting Ofsted requirements at all times.
- Assist the Supervisor with daily operational management.
- Manage, supervise and support staff in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with external professionals to support children and families.
Main Duties
- Take responsibility for the overall management of the pre-school in the Supervisor’s absence, ensuring legal and quality standards are upheld.
- Work with colleagues to deliver a play‑based curriculum that includes observation, assessment and planning based on children’s interests and developmental stages, supporting learning across all EYFS areas.
- Support staff to complete high‑quality observations on Tapestry and ensure children’s progress is recorded and shared with parents both formally and informally.
- Attend staff meetings and committee meetings as required.
Pre-school Session Management
- Ensure all equipment and materials are set up before each session and tidied away afterwards, leaving the environment clean and organised.
- Ensure activities, equipment and resources are presented attractively and supported with appropriate books.
- In the Supervisor’s absence, ensure the daily register is completed and all required session paperwork is maintained, including accident records, medication forms and correspondence.
- Ensure children are supervised appropriately at all times and that adult‑to‑child ratios are maintained.
- Ensure daily hygiene, infection control and healthy lifestyle practices are followed.
General
- Ensure the pre-school implements its Diversity & Inclusion, Equal Opportunities and Behaviour Management policies, and remains welcoming to all children and families, including those with additional needs.
- Work alongside the Senior DSP to ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and statutory EYFS (2021) requirements are met.
- Challenge discrimination in all forms and ensure staff and volunteers do the same.
- Reflect on and evaluate practice regularly. Keep up to date with developments in early years through training, meetings and relevant reading, and encourage staff and volunteers to do likewise.
Specific Responsibilities
- Lead on additional specific duties, to be agreed upon appointment, to support the ongoing development and improvement of Rudgwick Pre-school.
Pay: From £15.00 per hour
