New Opportunity – Machine Build Technician (Workshop Based in Derbyshire) ~ UK Travel Required
A specialist manufacturer of packaging and sealing machinery is seeking a
Machine Build Technician to join their
maintenance and engineering team. The role is primarily workshop-based, covering machine assembly, testing and calibration, with occasional UK-based service visits.
This role is mainly workshop-based; however, occasional field service work across the UK is required, so a full UK driving licence is essential.
What the role includes:
As the Machine Build Technician, you will be part of a close-knit team of engineers, taking ownership of your own workload within a workshop environment. The majority of your time will be spent building, assembling, and testing sealer and packaging machinery from technical drawings.
You will also support scheduled calibration work and occasional service visits to customer sites across the UK, typically visiting the same customers annually or for planned maintenance and repairs.
Training will be provided on Mitsubishi PLC systems (no programming required), mainly for awareness and basic fault-finding support.
Key Responsibilities as a Machine Build Technician:
- Build and assemble sealer and packaging machinery in the workshop
- Work from mechanical, electrical and pneumatic technical drawings
- Carry out testing, calibration and final machine preparation
- Support fault finding and troubleshooting on assembled equipment
- Attend UK customer sites occasionally for calibration and service work
- Respond to technical enquiries and assist with repairs when required
- Maintain documentation, calibration records and technical drawings
- Ensure GMP, Quality and Health & Safety compliance at all times
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activities
What we are looking for:
- Practical engineering / workshop experience (assembly, bench fitting or maintenance)
- Strong mechanical understanding (electrical and pneumatics beneficial)
- Comfortable working from technical drawings
- Basic understanding of pneumatics (essential)
- PLC awareness beneficial (Mitsubishi – training provided)
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Proactive and able to work independently without constant supervision
- Good communication and customer-facing confidence when required
- Full UK driving licence (max 3 points for insurance purposes)
- Flexible to travel occasionally with overnight stays when needed
Working Pattern & Benefits:
- Predominantly workshop-based role
- Standard days approx. 8:00–4:30 (flexibility required)
- 40 hours per week minimum
- Paid breaks + unpaid lunch
