Project Surveyor - Sizewell C - Suffolk Site based Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Enabling and Earthwork Section.
What will you do?
The Project Surveyor manages the day-to-day planning and implementation of the survey team and activities to support civil engineering and infrastructure projects. This pivotal role involves managing survey teams, coordinating with project stakeholders, and ensuring high-precision data collection and delivery across all phases of construction. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Earthworks, Structures & Infrastructure. Experience managing survey teams, drones (UAVs), machine control systems, engineering surveying and supporting on-site setting out operations.
The role will be appointed with the ‘Civil Works Alliance’ (CWA). The role will be located within the Enabling and Earthworks package to deliver the various construction packages appointed within. Role reports to the CWA Survey Manager.
Management & Leadership:
- Manage a team of surveyors across multiple active construction and infrastructure sites.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all survey activities related to site prep, earthworks, structures, road construction, and utilities.
- Carry out and oversee topographical, boundary, and volumetric surveys using advanced technology including GNSS, Total Stations, drones, and 3D laser scanning.
- Manage client and stakeholder interface I.e. SZC / CWA and subcontractors.
Technology & Data Management:
- Implement machine control systems (Trimble, Leica, Topcon), including data prep and model uploads to plant equipment.
- Work with UAV (drone) surveying data.
- Liaise with Monitoring manager re monitoring activities.
- Support engineering teams with precise and timely setting out for earthworks, roads, drainage, structures, and foundations.
- Oversee the quality assurance and submission of survey compliance records (CAD drawings, 3D models, as-builts, etc.).
- Key interface with BIM team implementing digital workflows.
- Deliver survey requirements in accordance with project program.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure robust quality control measures are in place to maintain the accuracy and integrity of survey data.
- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and site teams to integrate survey information with BIM and design models.
- Maintain survey equipment inventory and ensure all tools and software are calibrated, maintained, and up to date.
HSE & Training:
- Manage and implement RAMS & Survey procedures.
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, CDM regulations, and industry best practices.
- Mentor and train junior survey staff, promoting continuous technical and professional development.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications & Education:
- Degree or equivalent in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or related discipline.
- Specialist survey and monitoring software.
- Desirable: Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, ICES, CIHT).
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in engineering surveying, with at least 2 years in a management capacity.
- Proven track record in civil engineering and earthworks projects (e.g. highways, groundworks, infrastructure).
- Hands-on experience utilising UAV (drone) survey data.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with machine control systems (GPS/GNSS-guided machinery).
- Competent in site setting out procedures and support for construction teams.
- Proficiency with survey equipment (e.g. Leica, Trimble) and software (e.g. Star*Net, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, N4CE etc.).
Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in machine control, GNSS, Drones (UAV), remote sensing, and geospatial engineering.
- Familiarity with civil engineering principles and construction project life cycles.
- Knowledge of tools like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble, Leica Geosystems, Navisworks, Cyclone3DR, Microsoft Excel, etc.
- Strong communication skills for presenting spatial insights to engineering and non-technical audiences.
