Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organised Bookkeeper / Accountant to manage the financial and accounting functions of our dealership. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing day-to-day accounting transactions, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with management and department leaders to support the financial performance and efficient operation of the dealership.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping and Financial Administration
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
- Manage daily cash receipts and banking
- Process supplier invoices and customer payments in a timely manner.
- Monitor outstanding accounts and assist with debt collection where required.
Accounting and Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reports and management accounts.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Support external accountants and auditors during annual audits.
Dealership Financial Support
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle sales, purchases, floorplan finance, and inventory transactions.
- Assist with manufacturer reporting and financial reconciliations where applicable.
- Monitor dealership expenses and identify opportunities for improved financial efficiency.
- Support department managers with financial information and reporting.
Compliance and Administration
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation requirements, and dealership policies.
- Maintain confidential financial and employee information.
- Develop and maintain effective accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Assist with continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as reasonably required.
Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Previous experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
Desirable
- Qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Experience working within the automotive or dealership industry.
- Familiarity with dealership management systems (DMS) and accounting software.
