A Little Minds role that could make a very big difference
Little Minds Nursery in Tormarton (10 mins from Yate GL9) is looking for a caring, patient and enthusiastic 1:1 Early Years Support Practitioner to provide dedicated support for one of our children during their time with us.
The role is for 30 hours a week 8.00-18.00 Tues, Thurs and Friday all year around.
This is a lovely opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to a child’s nursery experience while developing their knowledge and skills in supporting children with additional needs.
The child requires a high level of individual support throughout their nursery day to help them access learning and play, communicate their needs, regulate their emotions, develop their independence and remain safe and happy within the nursery environment.
You will become an important and consistent person within their Little Minds journey, building a trusting relationship with them while still supporting them to be fully included within their room, friendships and everyday nursery experiences.
What will the role involve?
Working closely with our wider nursery team, you will:
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the child's nursery day
- Support their emotional regulation, communication and engagement
- Help them access activities, routines, play and learning at an appropriate level
- Break learning and developmental targets into small, achievable steps
- Recognise triggers and respond positively to their individual needs
- Support their safety while encouraging independence wherever possible
- Record observations and contribute towards individual targets and support plans
- Become their key person and part of the wider nursery team
- Be involved in meetings with parents and carers
- Contribute to reviews of targets, provision plans and other support documentation
- Work alongside visiting professionals and implement recommendations within everyday practice
- Help us celebrate every achievement – including the little ones that can actually be the biggest ones!
You will not be expected to arrive knowing everything about 1:1 support. You will be supported by our experienced management team, and lead SEN team, and given guidance to develop your confidence, knowledge and understanding of the role.
Who are we looking for?
The right person is more important to us than ticking every box.
Ideally, you will:
- Have experience working with children in an Early Years setting
- Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification, although we are happy to consider the right applicant who is keen to develop
- Be calm, patient, nurturing and consistent
- Understand that behaviour is communication
- Be able to build a strong relationship while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Be observant and able to recognise small changes and progress
- Be willing to learn about additional needs, SEND and different approaches to supporting development
- Be comfortable working closely with parents, colleagues and outside professionals
- Be reliable – consistency is particularly important within this role
- Most importantly, genuinely enjoy helping a child thrive
Previous experience supporting children with SEND or working in a 1:1 role would be an advantage, but it is not essential for the right person.
