Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Sheet Metal Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating Bystronic and Trumpf laser cutting machinery to produce high-quality sheet metal components in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements.
The role requires excellent attention to detail, a strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Bystronic and Trumpf laser cutting machines safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload sheet metal materials and ensure correct material selection.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, cutting plans, and job specifications.
- Set machine parameters, tooling, and cutting conditions as required.
- Monitor machine operation and make adjustments to maintain product quality.
- Carry out first-off and in-process quality inspections.
- Use measuring equipment such as verniers, micrometres, and gauges.
- Identify and report machine, material, or quality issues promptly.
- Ensure finished components meet dimensional and quality specifications.
- Perform routine machine checks and basic maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Follow company health and safety procedures at all times.
- Complete production paperwork and record material usage and output.
- Minimise material waste and maximise machine efficiency.
- Work closely with the production, fabrication, and quality teams to meet deadlines.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience operating a Bystronic and Trumpf laser cutting machine in a sheet metal environment.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of sheet metal materials, gauges, and fabrication processes.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to work to production deadlines.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with fibre laser or CO₂ laser cutting systems.
- Experience with Bystronic and Trumpf programming or editing machine programs.
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and nesting systems.
- Experience with materials including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
- Previous experience in a busy sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Relevant engineering or manufacturing qualifications.
Working Conditions
This is a hands-on manufacturing role within a production environment. The position may involve standing for extended periods of time
Overtime
Regular overtime is available.
Pay: £13.50-£15.00 per hour
