About the role
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry to join the Department of Chemistry, working under the supervision of Professor Dermot O’Hare for a period of up 5 months.
This post is to cover the absence of the substantive postholder, who is taking a period of paternity leave. The post is available from 21st September 2026 until 26th February 2027.
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will assist Professor Dermot O’Hare with the day-to-day management of the O’Hare research group, while also carrying out some original research within the more general theme of the commercial applications of Mg-based oxides and hydroxides.
The role is intended for an early-career research leader seeking to develop experience in team management skills as a stepping-stone to an academic career.

About you
Applicants must hold a PhD/DPhil in Inorganic Chemistry or a relevant subject area (or be close to completion), prior to taking up the appointment, together with post-qualification research experience demonstrating research independence.
You will have a good publication record appropriate to your career stage, with expertise in the synthesis and characterisation of layered double hydroxide materials. In addition, you will have experience of developing independent research ideas and leading high-quality research projects, with the ability to work effectively within large multidisciplinary collaborations.
The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Chemistry Research Laboratory, Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA. Some flexibility for hybrid/remote working may be agreed upon appointment, with requests for up to 2 days per week considered.
