About Us:
We are a developing dairy in Cheshire on a Arla organic contract, dedicated to organic principles and committed to sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices. We are looking for a skilled, reliable, and punctual calf rearer to join our professional team.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Calf Rearer, you will support all calving operations. Your roles and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Colostrum Management:
Ensuring the 3 Q’s of colostrum delivery—Quantity, Quality, and Quickness. This involves harvesting colostrum with hygiene and timing as crucial parts of the process, adhering to routines and protocols, and using tools like a refractometer and store & thaw machines.
Calf Husbandry:
Feeding, vaccinating, and treating calves as required, tagging, maintaining records, and ensuring all computer records are up-to-date using our diary system integrated into Uniform-Agri software.
Maternity Pen and Collecting Newborns:
Overseeing the calving yard and collecting newborn calves. While cows have access to pasture during calving, they are also fed a mixed ration daily to ensure proper intake and have access to straw/loose housing.
Farms Maintenance:
Keeping the farms tidy, cleaning milk feeding equipment, and mucking out calf pens and polytunnels.
Ownership:
Observing and reporting any issues, suggesting solutions to improve welfare and operational practices.
Collaboration:
Working with an independent professional calf specialist and an experienced dairy team, benefiting from mentoring and development opportunities.
Candidate Requirements:
- **Driving License:** Must have a clean driving record.
- **Organic Farming Experience:** Familiarity with organic systems is advantageous.
- **Flexibility:** Willing to work extra hours during peak seasons.
- **Team Player:** Enjoys working within a team and is cooperative.
- **Work Ethic:** Strong work ethic and willingness to become the best you can be
