The post holder will be responsible for assisting the Mental Health Act Administrator in processing the Mental Health Act documentation and liaising with colleagues within all the Mental Health Act Offices of the Trust.
To work as part of the MHA team, being responsible for maintaining a high standard in the management and monitoring of the requirements of the MHA 1983 (as amended 2007) for patients within the Trust’s services.
They will be required to provide a range of advice and guidance based on in depth knowledge in relation to Mental Health Legislation to all disciplines.
They will be required to facilitate the smooth running of Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers’ hearings; ensuring that the Trust meets all professional and legal requirements and responsibilities.
They should be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and agencies; be able to co-ordinate several work streams which will be running simultaneously and be confident in handling completing demands for completion; and maintain a high level of accuracy for each of those tasks.
The main duties of the role are to:
Ensure confidentiality, and high standards in record keeping and storage of all records (paper and electronic), so that they can be retrieved promptly and efficiently, and maintain a file transfer system.
To initially scrutinise the detention papers, under the supervision of the MHA Administrator, to ensure that the Trust is detaining people in a lawful manner.
To process and input the Mental Health Act data into the Trust’s electronic patient record (systmOne) complying with all data protection guidance and Mental Health Act processes.
To notify, in writing, all the relevant people in respect of a detention under the Mental Health Act including, where consent is given, the patients nearest relative.
To assist with the collation of statistical information both weekly, monthly or quarterly, as appropriate, relating to the MHA.
To generate the Section Expiry / Treatment Expiry Lists, from systmOne and the Trust’s reporting system.
Oversee and monitor arrangements made for appeals to the Mental Health Tribunal .
The postholder will be required to work to deadlines; use their own initiative, continually prioritise their own workload.
