About the Role
We are looking for caring, reliable and enthusiastic One-to-One Community Support Workers to provide personalised support to adults, children and young people within their homes and local communities.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two support packages will necessarily look the same. Visits are arranged around each person’s individual needs and may range from one or two hours to five or six hours per day.
You will build positive professional relationships with the people you support, helping them to develop confidence, independence and everyday skills while working towards meaningful personal outcomes.
Our approach is focused on the individual. Every visit should have a clear purpose and be tailored around the person’s strengths, preferences, communication style, needs and agreed goals.
What You'll Be Doing
Depending on the individual you are supporting, your role may include:
- Providing one-to-one support within the person’s home or community.
- Supporting daily living skills and healthy routines.
- Helping with budgeting, meal preparation and building confidence at home.
- Supporting attendance at health, education, therapy or community appointments.
- Helping people access activities, learning, volunteering, employment preparation and social opportunities.
- Encouraging independence, choice and positive risk-taking.
- Providing emotional reassurance, motivation and practical support.
- Supporting hobbies, relationships and community involvement.
- Helping children and young people participate in age-appropriate activities that promote development, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
- Working collaboratively with families, schools, social workers, healthcare professionals and other relevant professionals.
- Recognising changes in behaviour, mood, health or risk and reporting concerns appropriately.
Person-Centred Support
We don't believe one-to-one support should simply be about supervising someone.
You'll be expected to actively engage with the person you are supporting and make each session meaningful. This could mean helping someone develop a new skill, attend an appointment, become more confident using their local community, work towards greater independence or simply achieve something that is important to them.
You'll recognise and celebrate progress while providing the right level of support without creating unnecessary dependence.
About You
You don't necessarily need years of care experience to make a great Support Worker. We're particularly interested in finding people with the right attitude, values and approach.
You should be:
- Caring, respectful, patient and dependable.
- Confident working independently within community settings.
- A strong communicator who can adapt to different communication styles and support needs.
- Committed to person-centred support, independence, inclusion and safeguarding.
- Comfortable using smartphones, tablets and online systems.
- Able to complete clear, professional and factual care records.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Flexible around the needs of the individuals you support.
- Willing to complete the necessary safeguarding and background checks.
Previous Experience
Previous experience within domiciliary care, supported living, children's services, mental health, learning disabilities, autism or community support would be an advantage, but your values and ability to provide safe, meaningful support are equally important.
A relevant Health & Social Care qualification would also be desirable.
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required for some support packages.
Flexible Working Opportunities
We understand that different working patterns suit different people, which is why opportunities may be available on a:
- Part-time basis
- Term-time basis
- Permanent full-time basis
Hours will depend on individual support packages and may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, school holidays or term-time schedules.
Individual working hours, locations and travel requirements will be discussed as part of the assignment and rota arrangements.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is central to everything we do.
You will be expected to safeguard the adults, children and young people you support, recognise potential abuse, neglect, exploitation or deterioration and report any concerns immediately through the appropriate procedures.
Successful applicants will be subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including identity, right-to-work, references and employment history checks. An Enhanced DBS check, including the relevant barred-list check where applicable, will also be required.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to have a genuinely positive impact on someone's everyday life.
Whether you're helping a young person build confidence in the community, supporting someone to attend an important appointment or helping an adult develop greater independence, you'll be providing support with a clear purpose.
We're looking for people who are dependable, positive and genuinely committed to helping others achieve their goals.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
