Job Summary
Colombier UK Ltd is seeking a skilled and reliable Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team, operating our coiler / rewinder paper conversion machinery. This is a hands-on role within a well-established and highly respected paper conversion business, supplying major customers across the UK.
The successful candidate will bring proven machine operating experience from a manufacturing or industrial environment. While experience within the paper industry is highly advantageous, it is not essential, as full structured training will be provided. This role offers genuine opportunities for long-term progression, skill development, and regular overtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and control coiler and rewinder paper machines to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production.
- Set up machinery in line with production specifications, including reel changes, web threading, tension control, and quality adjustments.
- Carry out routine checks, basic maintenance, and first-line fault finding to minimise downtime.
- Monitor product quality throughout the production process, ensuring output meets customer and internal standards.
- Accurately complete production records, quality checks, and machine logs.
- Safely handle materials, reels, cores, and finished products in line with manual handling and site procedures.
- Work closely with supervisors and colleagues to achieve production targets and continuous improvement objectives.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Hours of Work
- The role is 40 hours per week, worked on a rotating shift pattern:
- Early shift: 6:00am – 2:00pm
- Late shift: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
- Flexibility is required to meet operational demands, with overtime frequently available.
Skills & Experience
- Essential:
- Previous experience as a machine operator within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and operate complex machinery.
- A safety-focused mindset and disciplined approach to procedures.
- Desirable:
- Experience within the paper, packaging, or materials conversion industry.
- Familiarity with coilers, rewinders, or web-based production machinery.
- Experience completing production documentation and quality records.
- Personal Attributes:
- Reliable, conscientious, and detail-oriented.
- Able to work independently and as part of a close-knit production team.
- Willingness to learn, develop, and progress within the business.
Additional Requirements
- Candidates must have their own reliable means of transport, as the site is not accessible by public transport and shift patterns fall outside standard travel times.
- Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK. Proof of eligibility will be required prior to employment.
