We’re looking for an experienced and confident Assistant Catering Manager to join our growing catering team.
Working closely with our Catering Manager, you’ll be the number two in the team, helping to make sure our events run smoothly from setup through to service and clear-down.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being involved in events, is confident leading a team and can take responsibility when needed. You’ll need to be comfortable stepping up and running smaller events independently, while supporting the Catering Manager on larger events.
The Role
As Assistant Catering Manager, you’ll help oversee the smooth running of our events and ensure our team delivers a professional, friendly and efficient service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Catering Manager with the planning and delivery of events.
- Taking responsibility for running smaller events independently.
- Leading and guiding casual catering staff during events.
- Delegating tasks and making sure staff know what is expected of them.
- Ensuring food is served on time and to the required standard.
- Setting tables and preparing event spaces to a high standard.
- Making sure front-of-house areas remain clean, tidy and presentable throughout an event.
- Monitoring staff performance and stepping in to support where necessary.
- Helping with the setup, service and clear-down of events.
- Ensuring catering equipment, service areas and kitchens are left clean and organised.
- Communicating effectively with the kitchen team to ensure food service runs smoothly.
- Acting as a point of contact for the team during events.
- Dealing confidently and professionally with any issues that arise during service.
- Supporting with outside catering events and occasional retail catering work.
- Ensuring health, safety and food hygiene standards are maintained throughout the event.
You’ll be expected to lead from the front. This is a hands-on role, and you won’t be afraid to jump in and help with whatever needs doing.
About You
We’re looking for someone with at least 3 years’ experience in catering, hospitality or events, with a good understanding of how a successful event should run.
You’ll ideally have experience of:
- Running or supervising catering events.
- Leading a team of casual or temporary staff.
- Setting tables and preparing venues for events.
- Buffet and event service.
- Working alongside kitchen teams to coordinate food service.
- Maintaining high standards of presentation and cleanliness.
- Dealing with customers and handling situations calmly and professionally.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who can take ownership. If you see something that needs doing, you’ll get it sorted rather than waiting to be asked.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Confident and capable of leading a team.
- Organised and able to think on their feet.
- Calm under pressure.
- Professional and well presented.
- Friendly and approachable with both customers and colleagues.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Comfortable giving direction and holding staff accountable.
- Happy working evenings and weekends.
- Flexible and willing to get involved across different areas of the business.
Hours & Location
This is a zero hours, casual contract, with approximately 20 hours per week available, depending on our event schedule and your availability.
Most work will be based in Knowle, with some outside catering events at other locations.
Evening and weekend availability will be an important part of the role.
Pay & Progression
£13–£17 per hour, depending on experience.
There is genuine opportunity for progression and increased responsibility as the business grows. The right person could develop into a more senior management position and take on greater responsibility across our events and catering operations.
