Personal Assistant – Join My Care Team (Days & Waking Nights available) – Plymouth
I'm a man in my 30s with a neuromuscular condition, looking for new people to join my established care team in Plymouth.
The basics
- £15.00–£16.40 per hour (days and/or waking nights – same rate)
- Rotas published 3 weeks in advance
- Paid training, free DBS, workplace pension, Blue Light Card eligibility, enhanced bank holiday pay.
- You'd be working directly for me rather than through an agency, which means a steady team, regular hours, and you actually get to know everyone in the team properly.
- I value people with some lived experience of complex care.
- I welcome those with previous complex care skills or Medical background who want to work in a family home.
- Full UK manual driving licence essential (my wheelchair-adapted van is manual, and my insurance only covers manual licence holders).
- No visa sponsorship available.
- About me: I like a wide variety of music; I have an interest in the natural world and a keen interest in trains and films.
- The shifts We're recruiting for days and 2 nights a week.
- Day shifts: 30–35 hrs/week, various shifts between 08:00 and 23:00, 5 days including alternate weekends
- Waking nights: 21:00 to 08:00, 2 nights per week including alternate weekends.
What you'd be doing: (training provided):
- Supporting my breathing – I use a ventilator and cough-assist machine 24/7. Full professional training is provided, as this is a clinical skill. You will receive constant support/shadowing to build up your confidence and skill levels - you will soon be competent in these tasks.
- Moving me safely using a ceiling track hoist
- Personal care, assistance with feeding, giving medication
- Helping with daily physiotherapy exercises
- Driving me out to do the things I want to do
- Light housework around the home.
What I'm looking for:
- Considerate, reliable, with good common sense.
- Organised and focused.
- Happy in a small team and confident lone-working for parts of the day or night.
- Willing to learn – aptitude and empathy matter more to me than prior experience
- Comfortable around medical equipment once trained.
Helpful but not required: prior care experience (paid, unpaid, family, or healthcare student placements all count). We can teach you the rest.

In your covering paragraph, please tell me:
- A little bit about you and why you would like to be considered for the role.
- Any experience of supporting someone, either paid or unpaid.
- Whether you're interested in day shifts, night shifts, or both.
