Ledwood are looking to recruit General Operatives to join our team at Point of Ayr, North Wales
Your Role:
This role is hands-on, varied, and essential to safe and efficient delivery of nine major items of equipment which will support the transformation of North West England and North Wales into one of the world's first low-carbon industrial clusters by 2030. A key component of this role is acting as Firewatch and Confined Space Entry Controller during hot works and other risk-critical operations.
Your new position will involve:

Act as a visible advocate of safe behaviours, reporting hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly. Maintain clean, organised, and compliant work areas, ensuring all activities support zero-harm objectives. Attend and contribute to safety briefings, toolbox talks, and team briefings.

General site operations tasks include support trades, supervisors, and work teams with day-to-day tasks unskilled general work activities, materials handling, housekeeping, and basic logistical support. Move, segregate, and store materials in accordance with RAMS, site rules, and environmental procedures. Assist with deliveries, waste management, and recycling, including handling segregated or hazardous waste safely. Erect and maintain barriers, signage, and exclusion zones to control access and maintain safe workfaces. Assist in setting up work fronts by checking power/lighting, managing trailing cables, and ensuring equipment readiness. Conduct basic tool checks (including PAT status) and report defects immediately. Support permit-to-work processes, completing Point of Work Risk Assessments (POWRA) as required.

Act as a dedicated Firewatch during hot works such as welding, cutting, grinding, or torch operations. Verify that Hot Work Permits and other permits are in place before activity begins. Monitor active and adjacent areas continuously for sparks, heat transfer, smoke, or other ignition hazards. Manage combustibles by clearing or shielding flammable materials and ensuring fire-resistant screens/blankets are correctly installed. Check that suitable and in-date fire extinguishers and fire blankets are present, accessible, and appropriate for the task. Maintain communication with the permit holder and supervisor, stopping work immediately if unsafe conditions arise. Ensure flexibility around break / lunch and finish times to conduct mandatory post-work firewatcher checks, including inspections of adjacent compartments or voids. Accurately record checks and observations in permit documentation and handover notes.

Positive communication and team engagement, work collaboratively with supervisors, trades, logistics, and safety teams to support operational requirements. Provide timely feedback on issues such as materials shortages, unsafe conditions, or equipment defects. Respond constructively to instructions and contribute positively to team performance.

Ensure HSE compliance and conduct, follow all company and client HSE polices, procedures, and permit-to-work systems. Upholds project values and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement, wear, maintain, and use PPE correctly (minimum: Overalls, hard hat, safety boots, gloves, glasses, ear protection; plus task-specific PPE when required). Follow environmental controls including spill prevention, dust/noise mitigation, and proper waste segregation. Participate in compulsory training, inductions, and refresher courses; maintain all required competencies, cards, and medical fitness. Respect all security protocols including restricted areas, access controls, and device/photography rules.

Qualifications & Experience Requirements:

Previous experience as a General Operative/Labourer on large infrastructure, Construction / Oil/ Gas sites is preferrable

Strong safety mindset, understanding of RAMS, permits, point-of-work risk assessments, and Stop Work Authority.

Clear, concise communication; able to follow instructions and escalate issues promptly.

Physically fit for manual handling, standing/walking for extended periods, and working indoors/ outdoors, in confined space and at height in changing conditions.

Reliability and punctuality, to work the assigned working schedule. Additional overtime and none schedule workdays may be available.

Project Specifics
The position will be based onsite, starting ASAP for approx 18-24 months. This role will report into the Supervisor / Construction Lead.
Working Hours: 9.5 Hours Monday to Thursday, 6 hours Friday and 5 Hours Saturday (Working hours may change to suit the needs of the project).
Rate of Pay: PAYE Basic Rate between £14.74 - £16.90 depending on experience
