Assistant Operational Manager Maternity Cover

We are looking to appoint an experienced and high-calibre leader to supervise waste management operations and admin duties at our site in Royston on the Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border.
This site is unique in the fact that it is multi-functional, operating as both a pet crematorium and a specialist waste treatment disposal facility. The site is going through a period of substantial investment and plant upgrade.
Duties will include: -
· Overseeing staff payroll, holiday bookings, overtime cover and sickness reporting.
· The raising of waste transfer paperwork.
· Transferring metric information from hand-written shift records onto digital KPI databases.
· Ensuring that site cremation & incineration plants are operated in a profitable manner whilst maintaining adherence to established health, safety & compliance protocols.
· Gaining an awareness of both company policies and procedures in addition to the relevant waste industry statutory regulations.
· Closely monitoring productivity levels, throughput figures, processing costs and sustainability targets.
· Adopting a lean management philosophy. Implementing strict & effective cost control measures within the department, particularly in relation to fuel consumption.
· Covering manual tasks in the yard and running processing plant machinery when work pressures or low staffing resource necessitates it.
Ideally, to become part of our business we’d like candidates to possess:
- A Hazardous Waste COTC qualification (though not essential).
- Health and Safety qualified to minimum IOSH standard (though not essential).
- Effective leadership and organisational skills.
- Forklift experience.
- An ability to measure KPI’s, to identify trends and to challenge under-performance.
- Experience in managing HR matters.
- A “hands-on” approach, willing to lead by example.
- The ability to work to deadlines with a focused attention on detail.
- The ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
- A positive attitude and a good sense of humour in order to maintain morale.
This is a temporary position for 12 months, working 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday. However, a level of flexibility with hours may be required depending on the demands of the job. This might include an occasional night shift from time to time.

Pay: £35,000.00-£41,000.00 per year
