Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Salary: £35,535 rising to £36,035 after successful completion of 6-month probation and £37,035 once Level 5 qualified
Rota: 6-week rolling rota including admin, hybrid and direct-care shifts
On-call: 1 weekend in 6 + 1 weekday per week
Requirements: Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification, minimum 2 years’ residential childcare experience and a full UK driving licence

Enable Futures is recruiting for a Deputy Manager to join an established children’s residential home.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader or Deputy Manager who is ready for greater responsibility and wants to continue developing their career in residential childcare.
Working closely with the Registered Manager, you’ll help lead the team, oversee the day-to-day running of the home and ensure children receive safe, consistent, high-quality and genuinely child-centred care.
This is a varied position combining leadership, administration and direct care, so you’ll remain actively involved with both the team and the young people you support.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the Registered Manager with the safe and effective running of the home
- Leading, supporting and developing Senior Residential Support Workers and Residential Support Workers
- Ensuring safeguarding and children’s welfare remain at the heart of all decisions
- Supporting staff recruitment, induction, supervision, probation, appraisals and performance
- Helping manage rotas and maintaining safe staffing levels
- Overseeing care plans, assessments, case records and risk assessments
- Supporting children’s emotional, behavioural and health needs
- Working closely with families, Local Authorities, health professionals and partner agencies
- Maintaining high standards across safeguarding, compliance, health & safety and record keeping
- Promoting children’s rights, wishes, feelings and individual needs
- Providing management and shift cover when required
- Participating in the on-call rota
What we’re looking for
You’ll need:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience within a children’s residential care setting
- Experience supervising and/or managing staff
- QCF Level 3 or equivalent in Residential Childcare
- Strong safeguarding knowledge
- Good understanding of Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
- Confident leadership and communication skills
- The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations
- Strong organisation and administration skills
- A genuinely child-focused approach
- Flexibility to work outside standard office hours when required
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use
Salary & Development
There is a clear progression pathway:
£35,535 starting salary
£36,035 after successful completion of 6-month probation
£37,035 once Level 5 qualified
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your management experience while working towards your Level 5 qualification.
The Rota
The Deputy Manager works a 6-week rolling rota, combining management time with direct care:
- 8-hour admin shifts: 9:00am – 5:00pm
- 12-hour hybrid shifts: 9:45am – 9:45pm
- 25-hour direct-care shift: 9:45am – 10:45am the following day, including sleep-in
- One 25-hour shift approximately every 3 weeks
- On-call responsibility: 1 weekend in 6 + 1 weekday per week
The rota is planned in advance, giving you visibility of your working pattern.
