We are a busy and well performing rural dispensing GP Practice, operating over two sites on the outskirts of Newbury, within 15 minutes’ drive of each other and easily accessed from the A4, M4, and A34. We are looking to recruit a Dispensary Manager to oversee the smooth running of the dispensary at both surgery sites, Kintbury, and Woolton Hill.
Reporting to the Practice Manager, your key responsibilities are to manage the dispensing operation at the practice. This will include endorsing prescriptions, submissions to PPA, negotiating manufacturing discounts, ensuring all processes are compliant with the Department of Health, business management of the dispensary and managing staff.
Job summary:
- Works with the surgery teams to improve results – e.g. monitoring the error book, recording any near-misses and reporting these at whole staff meetings.
- In conjunction with the Practice Manager, identifies problems within the dispensary and seeks solutions
- Keeping up to date with all the dispensary administration, i.e. CD booklets and fridge temperatures.
- Assigned staff specific duties, i.e. OOD checking, removal of prescriptions not collected past a month, etc
- Monitor stock levels
- Monitors supplier performance
- Participates in audits, particularly those related to dispensing
- Implements dispensing changes
- Managing team of dispensers and associated rota
Administration
· Responsible for checking and counting FP10 forms for submission to PPA
· Maintains the Practice Formulary
· Checking the CD booklets/CD cupboard on a monthly basis
· Destruction of controlled drugs.
· Ensuring any supplier’s monthly statements are passed, in good time, to accounts person for payment
· Check the dispensaries for any recalls
· Check open Exeter and Epact for reports.
· Keeping up to date with the drug tariff changes
· Manage the training of any new checkers or dispensers
Dispensing
· Overseeing and checking (as appropriate) colleagues dispensing of medications
· Dispensing acute prescriptions for patients and minimise any potential errors
· Ordering of all the dispense labels, bags, tablet containers, cd booklets, etc.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Good standard of education including a qualification in English and Maths
- A dispensary qualification
- Experience of managing a dispensary team
- Experience of dealing with the public/patients
- Experience of maintaining profitability and business sustainability
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Accurate attention to detail.
- Experience of working to policies, guidelines and operating procedures

Shifts commence at 8:00 to 13:30 and 13:00 to 18:30. Some flexibility for this role is important as you many need to carry out extra hours to cover annual leave and other absences.

Full or part time hours considered, although would ideally like someone on site each day.
Salary: £17.59-18.59 dependant on experiance
