Role Overview
We are looking to appoint an experienced Machine Operator to run a specialist slitting machine used to convert large mother rolls of ABS edging tape into finished rolls of varying widths for the furniture manufacturing industry.
Our ABS edging products are applied to melamine-faced boards used in the manufacture of desks, kitchens, bedrooms, and other furniture applications.
This role involves setting up and operating precision slitting equipment, including the regular adjustment and changing of slitting shafts and scissor-cutting assemblies to meet specific customer requirements.
Although full training will be provided on our machinery and processes, applicants must have prior experience operating industrial machinery within a manufacturing environment and demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation & Setup
Set up, operate, and monitor specialist slitting machinery
Carry out machine adjustments, including shaft changes and cutting assembly setup
Ensure machines are running efficiently to meet production targets
2. Product Changeovers & Quality Control
Perform accurate product changeovers based on customer specifications
Maintain high standards of quality, ensuring finished products meet required tolerances
Carry out routine checks to ensure consistency and accuracy
3. Health, Safety & Compliance
Follow all safe working practices when operating machinery
Adhere to procedures relating to rotating equipment, cutting systems, and moving materials
Comply with lockout/tagout procedures and safe systems of work
4. Problem Solving & Maintenance
Identify and resolve minor machine faults or operational issues
Demonstrate strong mechanical understanding in troubleshooting equipment
Report any major issues to the appropriate personnel
5. Housekeeping & Organisation
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
Ensure materials and equipment are stored correctly
Support good housekeeping standards across the production area
6. Continuous Improvement
Support improvements in machine efficiency and production processes
Contribute to maintaining high standards within the manufacturing operation
7. General Duties
Work collaboratively with the wider production team
Carry out any additional duties required to support business operations
Key Skills & Experience
We are looking for someone who:
Has previous experience operating machinery within a manufacturing environment
Is confident carrying out machine setups, adjustments, and changeovers
Has strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Has a good understanding of health and safety practices in a production setting
Is committed to quality, accuracy, and meeting production targets
Is reliable, organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team
Desirable
Experience working with plastics, laminates, edging materials, or flexible materials
Experience operating slitting or cutting machinery
Direct experience with ABS edging products (not essential – transferable skills welcomed)
