CleanTech People are recruiting for an experienced Interim Accountant to join a finance team within a public sector organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional to provide high-quality financial support, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting and compliance across the organisation.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining robust accounting processes, supporting financial planning and delivering accurate financial information to senior stakeholders.
As an Interim Accountant, you will:
Lead balance sheet control activities, ensuring reconciliations are accurate, complete and audit-ready.
Deliver technical accounting compliance in line with CIPFA requirements and support the preparation of high-quality financial statements.
Manage reserves balances and funding sources, ensuring effective tracking, reporting and alignment with financial planning.
Manage organisational cashflow, banking and investments to support strong liquidity and treasury compliance.
Prepare clear and insightful treasury reports for senior leaders and committees.
Complete VAT returns, government submissions and regulatory reporting accurately and within required timescales.
Oversee income recognition and grant accounting processes, maintaining robust financial controls and transparency.
Line manage and support an Accounts Assistant, providing guidance, development and support.
Administer finance systems, including Xero, and contribute to improving processes and financial controls.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance operations.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A CCAB accountancy qualification or AAT-qualified accounting technician qualification (or equivalent).
Significant post-qualification experience with evidence of continued professional development.
Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience delivering complex financial processes.
Experience with balance sheet reconciliations, financial reporting and statutory returns.
Excellent understanding of financial controls, compliance and audit requirements.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide clear financial insight.
Experience supporting or supervising colleagues within a finance environment.
The following experience would be advantageous:
Local Authority finance experience.
Combined Authority or wider public sector experience.
Knowledge of CIPFA accounting standards.
Experience with public sector funding, grants and treasury functions.
