We are seeking an experienced and technically capable Energy and Water Metering Systems Engineer to install, implement and maintain metering systems across our customers’ buildings, sites, and infrastructure.
The role is responsible for ensuring the accurate measurement, collection, communication, and analysis of energy and water consumption data from building meters. The successful candidate will work with electrical, mechanical, controls, IT, facilities, sustainability, and energy-management teams to deliver reliable metering infrastructure that supports billing, regulatory compliance, energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and operational decision-making.
The role will cover electricity, gas, heat, cooling, and water metering systems, including automated meter reading (AMR), building management systems (BMS), energy management systems, communications networks, and associated data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
· Install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot energy and water metering systems within buildings and manufacturing processes.
· Review meter locations, measurement points, current transformer ratios, meter electrical wiring, pulse outputs, communications protocols, and system architecture.
· Ensure meters and associated equipment are correctly installed, configured, calibrated, labelled, and documented.
· Identify and resolve electricity sub-meter installation problems, wiring and installations.
· Undertake new electrical sub-meter installations within LV panels and other electrical installations.
· Integrate meters with BMS, AMR, IoT, SCADA, energy-management, and data-analytics platforms.
· Configure and troubleshoot communications using technologies and protocols such as Modbus, M-Bus, BACnet, TCP/IP, RS-485, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT, Ethernet, and pulse outputs, as applicable.
· Investigate missing, inaccurate, inconsistent, or anomalous meter readings and implement corrective actions.
· Carry out meter validation, data-quality checks, consumption reconciliation, and system performance testing.
· Support the development of automated data collection, dashboards, alarms, reports, and consumption-monitoring tools.
· Maintain accurate meter asset registers, commissioning documents, schematics, network drawings, point schedules and technical documentation.
· Support planned and reactive maintenance activities relating to meters, communications devices, data loggers, gateways, and associated systems.
· Ensure metering installations comply with relevant legislation, technical standards, electrical regulations, water regulations, and organisational requirements.
· Keep up to date with developments in smart metering, IoT technologies, energy analytics, utility management, and building-performance systems.
