Christopher Young Opticians is an independent, family-run optical practice based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. We are a small, welcoming team dedicated to providing outstanding patient care. We have a strong reputation in the local community and are looking for a like-minded individual to join us.
The Role
We are looking for a friendly and motivated Dispensing Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis. Working days are Thursday and Friday and every other Saturday morning. This is a great opportunity for someone with optical experience who is looking for a rewarding role in a supportive, patient-focused environment. You will work alongside our experienced dispensing staff to help patients select and fit their eyewear, provide excellent customer service, and assist with the smooth running of the practice.
What You Will Be Doing
- Helping patients choose frames and lenses that suit their prescription and lifestyle
- Assisting with basic dispensing measurements and fitting checks
- Providing a warm, professional welcome to all patients
- Processing orders and maintaining accurate patient records
- Supporting the team with general practice duties
- Assisting with frame displays and stock management
What we Are Looking For
Essential:
- Previous experience in an optical practice (dispensing assistant, optical assistant, or similar)
- Confident and caring approach with patients of all ages
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Friendly, reliable, and a strong team player
Desirable:
- Experience with varifocal or specialist lens dispensing
- Familiarity with practice management software
