Job overview:
SWIS are seeking a dedicated Cleaner to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by carrying out regular deep cleaning of all communal areas at our Head Office in Buckfastleigh.
You will play an important part in creating a homely, supportive atmosphere while being mindful of safeguarding responsibilities within a setting for young people. This role is fixed term initially for six months with potential to extend and may be achieved flexibly with a degree of working autonomy so long as young people's schedules are prioritised and their wellbeing emphasised at all times.
Key tasks:
- Carry out thorough deep cleaning of communal areas including kitchen, toilets, hallways, offices, children’s areas and staff areas.
- Ensure cleaning of doors, skirtings, walls and surfaces.
- Ensure hygiene and infection control standards are consistently met.
- Safely use cleaning products and equipment in line with health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and report any maintenance, health, or safety concerns to management.
- Dispose of waste safely and appropriately.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures, remaining vigilant to the needs and wellbeing of young people in the accommodation.
- Work flexibly and cooperatively as part of a supportive team.
- Respond and record any safeguarding issues in relation to young people in line with SWIS policies;
- Participate in and contribute to their own regular Supervision sessions, annual appraisal and service performance targets;
- Ensure their communications contribute to an effective staff team;
- Liaise in a professional manner at all times with neighbours and the local community;
- Participate in and contribute to regular staff meetings;
- Set high standards in respect to their own professional conduct and development.
Essential requirements:
- Driving licence and own vehicle (mileage will be paid)
- Previous cleaning experience, ideally in residential or social care settings.
- Awareness of safeguarding and ability to maintain professional boundaries with young people.
- Good understanding of health and safety and infection control.
- Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.
- First aid or basic health & safety training.
