Role Overview: The CAD Technician is responsible for the accurate design and development of Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) plans and documentation of design risk assessments.
Using CAD and Cone software, the CAD Technician produces accurate traffic management drawings, undertakes comprehensive design risk assessments, maintains drawing registers and supports project delivery through site meetings, stakeholder engagement and regular site audits.
The post holder is expected to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant traffic management legislation, industry standards and current best practices.
Working closely with clients, operational teams and key stakeholders, the role combines technical design expertise with effective communication to deliver safe, practical and efficient traffic management solutions tailored towards the client’s needs.
Strategic Leadership (Foundational)
- Technical Decision-Making: Applies technical expertise to develop safe and practical TTM designs, ensuring individual projects meet client requirements and safety standards.
- Problem Solving & Critical Thinking: Evaluates site-specific constraints and operational risks to propose effective solutions, escalating complex challenges to the Senior CAD Technician when necessary.
- Attention to Detail: Personally, produces high-quality CAD drawings and documentation. Ensures individual compliance with company templates to support the Senior CAD Technician’s goal of team-wide consistency.
- Professional Accountability: Takes full ownership of the design risk assessments for assigned schemes, ensuring every design represents the safest practicable solution.
Organisational Development
- Collaboration: Works closely with Project Managers and the Senior CAD Technician to deliver practical solutions that support successful project delivery.
- Continuous Improvement: Commits to Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Actively participates in knowledge-sharing sessions. Identifies lessons learned from personal projects to contribute to the improvement of design quality across the CAD function.
- Quality Assurance Support: Ensures own work is prepared to a standard ready for review and approval by the Senior CAD Technician, maintaining a high "right-first-time" rate.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Design Risk Management: Undertakes comprehensive design risk assessments for every assigned scheme, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated at the design stage.
- Legislative Knowledge: Maintains expert knowledge of current traffic management legislation, standards and guidance, including:
- Chapter 8, Part 1,2 & 3
- TSRGD – (Traffic Signs Regulatins and General Directions - 2016)
- Safety at Street Wrks and Road Works – A Code of Practice
- ARTSM guidance fr the use of portable traffic signals
- NHSS Sectr Schemes (NHSS 12 A,B and D)
- Natinal Highways – Raising the bar document suite.
- Audit Assistance: Supports the Senior CAD Technician in undertaking site audits to verify that installed traffic management matches the approved drawings.
Operations & Systems
- Traffic Management Design: Produces accurate Temporary Traffic Management designs using CAD and Cone software for a wide range of highway and infrastructure projects.
- Technical Documentation: Maintains accurate drawing registers, design records, meeting minutes, ensuring document control and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
People Development
- Technical Growth: Receives mentoring and technical guidance from the Senior CAD Technician, actively seeking feedback to refine design skills and professional judgement.
- Knowledge & Development: Commits to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), staying current with industry changes to prepare for increased responsibility and potential progression.
- Collaborative Culture: Models company values and contributes to a professional, safe, and positive working environment through open communication and a proactive approach to team goals.
Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00 with 30mins for lunch (42.5hrs per week)
Upto £40,000.00 per annum (dependant on experience and will be discussed at interview stage)
The successful candidate would be subject to a 6 month probationary period.
