UCL Institute of Ophthalmology conducts cutting-edge research, attracting principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows and MD/PhD students of the highest international calibre to a stimulating research environment. The Institute is committed to a multi-disciplinary research portfolio that furthers an understanding of the eye and visual system linked with clinical investigations targeted to specific problems in the prevention and treatment of eye disease.
UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) invites applications for an Associate Professor (Teaching) with experience in Ophthalmic Nursing to act as the Programme Lead for the PGCert/MSc in Clinical Ophthalmic Practice. This course is aimed at Ophthalmic Nurses and as such the programme lead should be a registered nurse.
The Associate Professor (Teaching) will work closely with Module Leads and the IoO Education Team to deliver the programmes and to ensure their continued success. S/he will be responsible, in conjunction with the other Programme/Module Leads where appropriate, for the organisation and management of the programme, for continued quality and for the academic experience of the students on the programme. The postholder will also contribute to other teaching and short courses.
S/he will be expected to be a member of the Departmental Education Committee at IoO and/or any relevant sub-committees and to play an active part in the development of the Institute’s education portfolio and the enhancement of the student educational experience. The role holder will be expected to work closely with the Joint Education Team.
The post offers an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key education leadership role of a highly successful and dynamic research and teaching Institute, as well as benefiting from the opportunities afforded by being part of the larger financial, educational, pedagogic and administrative community of the Faculty of Brain Sciences and UCL.
This post is available from 01/09/2026 and is funded until 31/08/2029 in the first instance.

You will hold a postgraduate qualification in ophthalmic nursing and current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Up-to-date knowledge of key developments in ophthalmology/ophthalmic nursing and a solid background in ophthalmic education including knowledge of the advanced practice framework for non-medical professionals is essential.
You will have higher education teaching experience including leading a Masters level programme and will demonstrate the ability to deliver research-led effective, engaging and inclusive postgraduate teaching.
