About Canterbury Cathedral
Canterbury Cathedral is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Located in Canterbury, Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and forms part of a World Heritage Site.
Cathedral Porter
We are looking for a Cathedral Porter to help keep this extraordinary building and its precincts looking beautiful, safe and ready for all who enter.
This is a hands on, varied role where no two days are the same. From preparing the Cathedral for worship and concerts to keeping historic spaces clean and cared for, your work will be central to our ministry of welcome.
The role as a Cathedral Porter
You will:

Keep the Cathedral, cloisters, Chapter House, vestries, Water Tower and public areas clean, orderly and welcoming

Set out and move furniture for services, concerts, exhibitions and events

Work closely with Virgers, Events, Housekeeping and other teams to meet tight deadlines

Champion Pride in Place, setting high standards by example

Supervise timekeeping and support colleagues during busy periods

Assist visitors, worshippers and hirers with a cheerful, can do attitude

Play a key role in health, safety and safeguarding, including fire warden duties
You'll work to a flexible rota, including evenings, weekends and occasional overtime when cathedral life demands it.
About you

Reliable, calm and physically fit, with a keen eye for detail

Organised and adaptable, able to respond positively to lastminute changes

Warm, welcoming and happy to help people from all walks of life

Sympathetic to the mission and values of the Cathedral

Confident working in a historic environment and aware of conservation cleaning needs
You'll ideally bring:

Experience in a similar role (Church, Cathedral or heritage setting)

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
-
Knowledge of health & safety, COSHH and safeguarding
-
First Aid and/or Fire Warden training (or willingness to be trained)
