Overview
We are looking for a person that is passionate about livestock, works well within a team and takes pride in your job and surroundings. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the daily care of livestock and farm operations. This position requires a commitment to animal care, maintenance of equipment, and the ability to perform various physical tasks essential for the smooth running of the farm.
The herd is predominantly Irish freisian based with a breeding policy for a cow that will produce milk off grass, with great fertility and the ability to thrive in an outwintering situation. Calving starts in march, we rear our own replacement feeding adlib in batches of 20 and then moved outside onto a milk bar in groups of 40.
The cows main diet is grass with concentrates fed in the parlour and silage add as grass growth declines. Winter feed of the herd is silage and grazed fodder beet by day and grass by night. The milking herd will remain on this all winter until joining the dry cows onto a mix of hay and silage until calving. Young Stock have winter feed of silage and grass strip grazed all winter.
Three seasons ago we purchased cow manager for heat and health detection system to assist in the running of the farm.
Your Role:
You will be required to work as part of a positive and friendly team. We like to teach everyone to have the ability to carry out all tasks on farm. This gives us flexibility and a opportunity to develop a large range of skill while keeping variety in the job role.
- Milking as part of a team in a 45:90 swing over parlour.
- Herd health, including vaccinations and immediate treatment of sick cows, mastitis and lameness. Pre and Post calving checks.
- Young stock work/ calf rearing.
- Grass allocation.
- Fertility including identification & AI. Training can be provided.
- Maintain and repair farm equipment.
- routine inspections of livestock and report any health concerns.
- Basic tractor work, feeding and fencing, irrigation and topping.
- General yard duties such as scraping.
- Assisting with record keeping.
- Be comfortable working alone at times.

Within three miles there is a popular market town of Bawtry which has an active social environment and wide variety of shops. Within 20 minutes you have access to large shopping centers and all major supermarkets.

Previous experience in animal care or agriculture is preferred but not essential. References from past/ present are essential.
