PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £42,000 - £50,333 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC North East and Cumbria is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Journalist to join the team. This role will include producing content for TV and digital, planning, producing bulletins and reporting. The successful candidate will also be given the opportunity to develop into producing our flagship 1830 news programme.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Production of TV bulletins and programmes, from lunchtime bulletins developing through to our flagship 1830
Commissioning and selecting relevant materials for output, ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines
Planning and/or undertaking reporting duties, filming and editing material for broadcast where appropriate
Originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, filming and presenting content across a range of multimedia platforms
May be required to present live or recorded content on radio, TV or online.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
A high standard of editorial judgment and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience.
An understanding of production techniques and newsgathering technology.
A strong understanding of our digital platforms and their importance for our news operation and audience growth.
Ability to manage resources and staff to create engaging content in the most cost effective manner.
The flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities. and circumstances.
DESIRABLE:
Experience in maximising opportunities offered by existing and emerging technologies to their fullest extent.
Cross platform, multimedia knowledge, skills and experience.
Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.
