Position: Planning Compliance Officer
Location: High Street, Esher, KT10 9SD
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 12+ Weeks (3+ Months) - 2 days in the office, 3 days remote
Working Hours: 36 hours per week
Pay Rate: PAYE: £27.27 Per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Investigate reported breaches of planning control and planning regulations
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and gather evidence
- Review planning history, plans, and supporting documents
- Interview members of the public, landowners, and occupiers when required
- Negotiate with property owners to achieve compliance with planning regulations
- Prepare reports and recommend appropriate enforcement action
- Issue enforcement notices and prepare supporting evidence for legal proceedings
- Liaise with Legal Services and other internal departments
- Respond to enquiries from the public, councillors, and other stakeholders
- Support proactive planning enforcement projects and community engagement activities
- Attend hearings, public inquiries, and court proceedings when required
- Maintain accurate records using computerised systems and databases
Requirements:
- A Levels or equivalent qualification
- Previous experience using computerised systems
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Strong record-keeping and report-writing abilities
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation and government guidance
- Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team
- Flexible and proactive approach to work
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willing to undertake site visits, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Eligible to work in the UK
Desirable:
- Degree or diploma in Town & Country Planning or a related discipline
- Eligibility for RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) membership
- Experience in planning enforcement or compliance
- Experience conducting site investigations and collecting evidence
- Experience interviewing members of the public and taking statements
- Ability to read and interpret technical plans and drawings
- Access to a vehicle for site visits
