Location: Gordale Garden Centre
Hours: Part-time or Full-time. Full-time colleagues work five days per week, including one weekend day. Part-time colleagues work a minimum of three days per week, including one weekend day.
Pay: From £12.71 per hour, rising with service.

Role Overview
As a Garden Centre Assistant – Plants Team Member, you will play an important role in delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining our extensive outdoor and indoor plant departments to the highest standards. This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll care for plants, assist customers with their gardening needs, and help create an inspiring shopping environment.
Previous horticultural qualifications, such as RHS Level 2 or equivalent, would be advantageous but are not essential. We welcome applications from individuals with a genuine passion for plants and gardening and a willingness to learn and help our customers.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Department Duties
- Deliver outstanding customer service, offering advice and recommendations to help customers choose the right plants for their gardens.
- Water, feed, deadhead, prune, and generally care for plants to maintain excellent quality and presentation.
- Ensure plants are correctly priced, attractively displayed, and regularly replenished.
- Assist with seasonal plant displays and merchandising throughout the year.
- Promote Gordale's loyalty card to enhance the customer experience.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and safety throughout the plant area.
Stock & Operational Duties
- Receive, check, and unpack plant deliveries safely and accurately.
- Move stock efficiently between delivery areas and the sales floor using appropriate equipment where required.
- Rotate stock and remove poor-quality plants to maintain excellent standards.
- Ensure storage and back-of-house areas remain clean, safe, and organised.
- Support stocktaking and inventory management processes.
- Complete daily safety checklists and report any maintenance or safety issues to management.
Your Skills and Qualities
- Passion for Plants: A genuine interest in plants and gardening. Previous horticultural knowledge or qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential.
- Customer-Focused: A warm, approachable attitude with a passion for helping customers.
- Team Player: Work collaboratively to support colleagues across the garden centre.
- Detail-Oriented: Take pride in maintaining high standards of plant quality, presentation, cleanliness, and safety.
- Physically Fit: Able to lift, carry, and move plants, compost, and other garden products while working outdoors in all weather conditions.
