Excellent opportunity for a R&D Engineer to join our team on a Full-Time, Permanent basis. To support the design and development of trailer products and component products in the Nugent range. The role focuses on delivering innovative, reliable, and compliant trailer solutions that enhance customer value, manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and market competitiveness.
JOB FUNCTION
The R+D Engineer will:
- Design and develop new trailer products and component or product enhancements
- Develop and maintain product specifications and technical documentation
- Create 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Review existing designed and implement continuous product improvements
- Plan and manage prototype builds
- Develop and conduct test programmes for structural integrity, durability, and performance.
- Research new materials, manufacturing technologies, and towing technologies.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor products, and emerging regulations.
- Evaluate opportunities for weight reduction, durability improvements, and cost reduction.
- Work with production teams to optimise manufacturability.
- Support introduction of new products into production.
- Develop jigs, fixtures, and manufacturing process improvements
- Support type approval and homologation activities.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- 3rd level qualification in an Engineering related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years in a Fabrication / Manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 2 years working on R+D

- Previous experience in a similar role
- Experience in Sheet metal CAD modelling
- Good communication skills
- Strong organisation and project management skills
- Able to work in fast paced environment
- Excellent IT skills, PLM, MRP systems
- Team player who is creative, open-minded, methodical and passionate about their role
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Experience in using Solid Works.
- Experience of Vehicle type approval process
- Knowledge of Finite Element analysis
- Experience in Lean manufacturing
- Experience in GRP / Plastics design
