Responsible to: Head Teacher
Purpose of the Role
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Deputy Head Teacher will support the strategic leadership and management of the school, deputise for the Head Teacher when required, drive high standards of teaching and learning, lead staff development, and contribute to the continuous improvement of outcomes for pupils.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership
- Contribute to the vision, values and strategic direction of the school and Trust.
- Support school improvement planning, self-evaluation and the implementation of school priorities.
- Lead by example, promoting high expectations and a culture of teamwork, inclusion and continuous improvement.
- Attend and contribute to leadership meetings and Trust initiatives.
Teaching, Learning and Curriculum
- Lead a designated curriculum area and monitor the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Promote high standards of achievement and pupil progress across the school.
- Use performance and assessment data to identify priorities, monitor outcomes and address underachievement.
- Support the development of an engaging curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
- Model and promote outstanding classroom practice and positive behaviour strategies.
Leadership and Staff Development
- Lead, motivate and develop staff through coaching, mentoring and professional development.
- Contribute to performance management and appraisal processes.
- Foster collaboration across the school and Trust to improve teaching and learning.
- Support colleagues in understanding and fulfilling their professional responsibilities.
School Management and Safeguarding
- Support the effective day-to-day management and organisation of the school.
- Contribute to the planning and effective use of resources.
- Ensure high standards of behaviour, wellbeing and safeguarding.
- Fulfil responsibilities as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and attend relevant meetings and training.
- Promote equality, inclusion and a positive learning environment for all pupils.
Accountability and Community Engagement
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluating school performance and improvement priorities.
- Support reporting to parents, governors and other stakeholders.
- Build positive relationships with families and the wider community to enhance pupil outcomes.
- Promote opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
