Senior C&I Engineer
Altrad are currently looking for an experienced Senior C&I Engineer to join our Engineering team in Middlesbrough.
The successful candidate will provide technical expertise across Control & Instrumentation (C&I) and Telecoms engineering activities, taking responsibility for the delivery of key project work scopes. The role requires strong technical leadership, the ability to supervise engineering activities, and the capability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions in line with client and industry standards.
Key Deliverables:
- Technically responsible for all allocated C&I and Telecoms engineering work.
- Supervise and delegate engineering activities and checking responsibilities where appropriate.
- Resolve technically challenging engineering issues and communicate effectively with clients and senior management.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables including philosophies, specifications, Shutdown Cause & Effect Charts, schedules, drawings, diagrams, datasheets and technical requisitions.
- Identify and resolve technical discrepancies by raising technical queries with clients and project teams.
- Deliver Safety Lifecycle documentation in accordance with IEC 61511 where applicable.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).
- Attend multidisciplinary Engineering Design Reviews and provide C&I engineering input to close out actions.
- Define project scope, prepare the Master Document Register (MDR) and plan engineering activities and resources.
- Provide project controls, progress reporting and manpower planning support.
- Support Procurement by preparing technical requisitions, reviewing vendor documentation and carrying out technical bid evaluations.
- Ensure engineering designs comply with client specifications while identifying cost-effective improvements.
- Liaise with Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with ISO Quality Procedures, Project Quality Plans and Design Integrity processes.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the E,C&I Group Manager.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
- BSc or BEng in an Engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years' engineering experience, including at least 3 years within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Chemical sectors.
- Experience in design office and field engineering environments.
- Strong knowledge of Control & Instrumentation engineering and Telecoms systems where applicable.
- Experience delivering Safety Lifecycle documentation in accordance with IEC 61511.
- Construction and commissioning site experience.
- Understanding of British and international engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Strong organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong attention to detail and computer literacy, including engineering software and Microsoft Office.
- Leadership skills with the ability to supervise and delegate effectively.
- Desirable qualifications include Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and TÜV Rheinland SIS Functional Safety certification.
- Commercial and contractual awareness, risk management experience and knowledge of processing plant construction, commissioning and operations are advantageous.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal and organisational skills.
