With sustainability, food integrity and animal welfare at our core, we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Health, Safety, Environmental & Compliance Advisor to support our multi-species organic abattoir and food manufacturing operation and the wider country Estate and farm.
About the role:
We're seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to play a key role in supporting and enhancing our safety, environmental and compliance culture across our abattoir, food manufacturing facility, farm and country estate.
This is a varied and hands-on position, working closely with operational, quality and site management teams to ensure the highest standards of health and safety, environmental stewardship, food safety, animal welfare and regulatory compliance are maintained. You will be responsible for driving continuous improvement, promoting best practice and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and customer requirements.

What does this role involve day to day?
As our HSE Advisor, you will act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, supporting the business in creating a safe, compliant and environmentally responsible working environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Reviewing, developing and maintaining HSE policies, procedures and management systems across all sites.
- Conducting regular risk assessments, audits and workplace inspections to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
- Providing expert guidance on operational risks, including machinery safety, livestock handling, manual handling and food production activities.
- Supporting the company's Health & Safety Consultant in maintaining compliance across the farm and estate.
- Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Delivering HSE training, inductions, toolbox talks and awareness programmes across the business.
- Promoting a positive safety culture and encouraging employee engagement in health and safety initiatives.
- Supporting environmental compliance activities, including waste management, pollution prevention and sustainability programmes.
- Assisting with emergency response planning, business continuity arrangements and crisis management procedures.
- Monitoring and reporting on HSE performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Supporting regulatory inspections and maintaining effective relationships with enforcement agencies and external stakeholders.
Food Safety, Animal Welfare & Regulatory Compliance
Supporting compliance with food safety, animal welfare and regulatory requirements across the abattoir, manufacturing facility, farm and estate.
Working closely with Quality, Production and Operational teams to maintain compliance with:
- Food Standards Agency (FSA) requirements
- HACCP principles and food safety management systems
- Organic certification standards
- BRCGS, SALSA and customer-specific requirements
- Welfare of Animals at the Time of Killing (WATOK) regulations
- Participating in internal and external audits, customer visits and regulatory inspections, ensuring actions are completed effectively.
- Supporting the maintenance and continuous improvement of compliance documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), risk assessments and site records.
- Assisting with investigations into food safety incidents, customer complaints, non-conformances and regulatory observations.
- Supporting hygiene standards, biosecurity measures, contractor management and operational compliance controls.
- Liaising with Official Veterinarians (OVs), certification bodies, auditors and regulatory representatives.
- Promoting a culture focused on food safety, product integrity, traceability and continuous improvement.

You are a knowledgeable and practical HSE professional who enjoys being visible within operational environments, building strong stakeholder relationships and helping businesses achieve high standards of safety and compliance.
You'll be successful in this role if you have:
Essential
- Previous experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role within meat processing, food manufacturing or another highly regulated production environment.
- A NEBOSH Diploma qualification.
- Membership of IOSH, ideally working towards or already holding CMIOSH status.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, COSHH requirements and environmental compliance.
- Experience supporting food manufacturing compliance programmes and food safety management systems.
- Knowledge of HACCP principles and food safety requirements.
- Experience supporting third-party audits such as BRCGS, SALSA, Organic Certification or equivalent standards.
- A good understanding of FSA requirements, animal welfare legislation and regulatory expectations within food production environments.
- Experience working with certification bodies, auditors and regulatory authorities.
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage colleagues at all levels.
- A practical, hands-on approach and a passion for continuous improvement.
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience within a multi-species abattoir environment.
- Experience supporting health and safety activities within agriculture, farming or estate operations.
- HACCP qualification.
- Environmental management qualification or experience.
- Experience implementing behavioural safety initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
