About us
The Ropley House is a brand-new pub, smokehouse, and steakhouse opening on the A31 near Alresford, Hampshire. We're building something exciting — bold fire cooking, quality steaks, and proper pub food in a great setting. We open in two weeks and we need the right person in our kitchen now.
The role
We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our founding team immediately. You'll work alongside the Head Chef to get the kitchen ready for opening and lead the brigade through service from day one. This is a hands-on role where your experience, drive, and passion for food will make a real difference.
What you'll be doing
- Supporting the Head Chef through pre-opening kitchen setup and preparation
- Running the kitchen confidently during service and in the Head Chef's absence
- Delivering quality pub dishes — bar snacks, sharing plates, hearty mains, and daily specials
- Training and leading the kitchen brigade
- Managing prep schedules, stock rotation, and supplier orders
- Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards to a high level
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years' experience working in a pub kitchen — essential
- Experience leading a kitchen team and running a section
- Available to start immediately — we open in two weeks
- Food Hygiene Level 3 certificate (essential)
- Reliable, calm under pressure, and a team player
What we offer
- £28,000 – £35,000 per year, dependent on experience
