Current Opportunity: Scaffold Assurance Supervisor
Location:
Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).
Role description:
The Scaffold Assurance Supervisor will work closely with the H&S teams across the Central East area of the project. Will be responsible for ensuring all scaffolding and work at height activities across the project or region are erected, modified, inspected, and dismantled in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and company procedures. The role ensures scaffolding safety, compliance, and quality through regular inspections, assurance checks, coaching, and liaison with supervisors, contractors, and site management.
Key responsibilities:
1. Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled scaffold inspections in accordance with statutory requirements and company procedures.
- Ensure compliance with NASC guidance (e.g., TG20:21, SG4:22, SG6, SG10) and all applicable regulations such as the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
- Review scaffolding designs for complex structures and verify that operational teams construct them correctly.
- Lead assurance audits, document findings.
2. Safety Leadership
- Promote a strong safety culture across scaffolding teams and site operations.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support to scaffolders, supervisors and delivery team management.
- Identify unsafe practices or substandard scaffolds, record and report findings to the Scaffold Assurance Manager.
- Investigate scaffold-related near misses, incidents, or structural failures and report findings.
3. Technical Support
- Verify that scaffolders hold appropriate CISRS competencies and training for the tasks assigned.
- Oversee scaffold digital tagging systems and ensure consistency across the project or region.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of inspections, audits, actions, and scaffold registers.
- Produce weekly and monthly assurance reports for senior management.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives by analysing trends and implementing corrective actions.
5. Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with construction teams, contractors, lifting teams, and TWC’s.
- Support pre task briefings, toolbox talks, and safety stand downs.
- Communicate clearly with management and operatives regarding compliance expectations and improvement measures.
Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- CISRS Advanced Scaffolder, CISRS Adv. Inspection, CISRS Scaffold Supervisor Card equivalent trade background.
- Strong understanding of TG20:21, TG30.24, SG4:22, and other NASC standards.
- Experience supervising scaffolding operations in Tier 1 construction, industrial, or infrastructure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.
- Good communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
- Strong report writing and audit documentation capabilities.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
