Audley End Enchanted Railway
Salary: £31,000 per year
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: Full-time, including weekends
About the Role
We are looking for a practical, hands-on Site & Facilities Supervisor to join the team at Audley End Enchanted Railway.
This is a varied role for someone who enjoys getting stuck in, solving problems and taking responsibility for keeping a busy visitor attraction safe, well maintained and looking its best.
Reporting directly to the Railway Manager, you will supervise our Site & Facilities team, including Site & Facilities Assistants and our Groundskeeper. You’ll organise and prioritise day-to-day workloads and site projects, while also working alongside the team to get jobs completed.
This isn’t a desk-based supervisory position. We’re looking for someone who is equally comfortable planning the work, supporting their team and rolling up their sleeves to get things done.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising and supporting the Site & Facilities team, allocating daily tasks and providing practical guidance.
- Managing and prioritising the department job list, making sure maintenance and projects stay on track.
- Planning workloads around operational requirements, visitor schedules and wider site priorities.
- Carrying out and overseeing general maintenance and repairs across our buildings, infrastructure, utilities, drainage and site facilities.
- Coordinating and supporting grounds maintenance, including hedges, trees, pathways, signage, fencing, mowing and strimming.
- Making sure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
- Coordinating and undertaking site improvement projects, small construction works, repairs and installations.
- Managing labour, materials and tasks to ensure projects are completed safely, to a good standard and within agreed timescales.
- Supporting our Engineering team with the preparation, inspection, minor repair and routine servicing of locomotives and carriages.
- Providing Engineering and Site & Facilities cover during operational running on a rotation basis.
- Responding quickly and practically to issues that arise during our open days.
- Ensuring work is carried out in accordance with our health, safety and security procedures.
- Supporting the Railway Manager and wider team with operational and site-related projects.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is practical, organised and confident leading a small team.
You’ll need to be comfortable working across a wide range of maintenance and facilities tasks and able to decide what needs doing first in a busy operational environment.
The right person will be someone who:
- Has a strong practical, maintenance or facilities background.
- Is confident supervising and organising others.
- Can plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
- Has a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
- Is comfortable carrying out hands-on maintenance and repair work.
- Takes pride in completing work safely and to a high standard.
- Can work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
- Is willing to support different areas of the railway when required.
- Is comfortable working weekends as part of their normal working pattern.
Experience within facilities, estates, grounds maintenance, engineering, construction or a similar practical environment would be particularly relevant.
What We Offer
Salary: £31,000 per year
Holiday: 31 days per year, including Bank Holidays
Benefits include:
- Staff discount
- Employee Assistance Programme
- A varied, hands-on role where no two days are quite the same
- The opportunity to work in a unique visitor attraction as part of a close-knit team
- Working Pattern
This is a full-time role and includes weekend working.
As a visitor attraction, our busiest periods naturally include weekends and school holidays, so applicants should be comfortable working as part of a rota that reflects the operational needs of the railway.
