Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Children's Residential Support Worker to join our new team. This vital role involves providing high-quality care and support to children in a residential setting, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development. The successful candidate will lead by example, offering guidance and mentorship to other team members while fostering a nurturing environment that promotes positive growth. Experience working with children, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to safeguarding are essential for this role.
Responsibilities:
- To work very closely with the Deputy and Manager to ensure the running of the home is to a high standard meeting Ofsted Quality Standards.
- To work in a wholly child-centred manner.
- To contribute to the development of each child through the provision of a “home from home” environment, and being a committed and consistent adult role model.
- To be assigned as a key worker or co-key worker, and to provide a high standard of care throughout.
- To provide warmth and care for our children, supporting individual care and support needs as agreed.
- To contribute to cooking, cleaning, washing, shopping, and budgeting pocket monies, supporting each child in every aspect of their daily living, and wherever an opportunity exists, supporting children in developing independence skills.
- To ensure pocket money / petty cash receipts are retained for financial auditing records.
- To support the children with education attendance, and in carrying on with learning and development activities within the home.
- To follow the child’s Care Plan, Placement Plan, and risk assessments and carry out job role in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home at all times.
- To understand and adhere to all policies and procedures within the home, and work to operational procedures.
- To complete and comply with all risk assessments in place, and update these where required.
- To ensure that, as a Senior Worker, all recording is kept up-to-date (including the log book) throughout your shift, and that all staff on shift, complete daily records before ending their shift.
- To ensure that you and the team meet Health and Safety requirements, and they are updated and maintained to standards in compliance with our Registration.
- To take into consideration when planning your shift, activities, health appointments, meetings, free time to ensure that the children’s needs are met throughout.
- To be committed to being on call and being available during your on call period for anyone who needs further advice/support.
- To ensure that the staff are engaging with the children as agreed, and have the confidence to address any staffing/practice issues raised whilst on your shift.
- To report any safeguarding concerns to the home’s Designated Lead Safeguarding Lead, and follow the correct safeguarding procedures.
- To ensure all accidents (including the child, employees and third parties) are recorded immediately using the correct forms and notification procedures.
- To administer medication in accordance with medication policies and procedures.
- To follow risk assessments and individual placement plans and understand the content of these, including in relation to activities, trips, visits, contacts, free time, and anything important to the children.
- To give staff handovers before commencing or leaving a shift, engaging in a thorough handover to ensure staff can take over a shift safely. To also complete a debrief every evening as part of your reflective practice, establishing if there were any issues arising from the shift, but emphasising positives.
- To complete all evening monitoring checks.
- To apply Positive Behaviour Management / de-escalation strategies to safely manage the behaviour of the children, and only engage in physical interventions as an absolute last resort, focusing on least restrictive practise.
- To carry out sleep-in duties (paid at £65 per night).
To work as part of a team:
· Being aware of the aims and objectives of the home and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve them.
· Attending team/ staff meetings and making a positive contribution to them
· Actively contributing to the development of the team.
· Receiving and storing information in compliance with GDPR, and to improve communication.
· Being willing to give and receive feedback on performance with colleagues and managers.
· Being fully aware of care plans for all children and providing support for colleagues by maintaining consistency in the execution of those plans.
· Providing informal practical and emotional support to colleagues experiencing difficulties.
· Attending and contributing to regular supervision sessions in line with the Quality Standards.
· Monitoring the conduct of colleagues and referring on any causes for concern (Whistleblowing).
· Being familiar with all policies and procedures and adhering to them.
General Responsibilities:
· Attending children’s meetings and contributing to them.
· Driving company vehicles (current driving licence holders subject to procedures).
· Receiving training appropriate to the role and maintaining an up-to-date training profile.
· Responsibility for the accurate maintenance of financial records appropriate to the duties of the post.
· Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of self and colleagues in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety Policies.
· To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Registered Manager or designated Deputy.
