Lead a globally distributed engineering team and help build cloud platforms that are automated, scalable, secure and reliable.
Tribal is a leading EdTech company providing software and services that support education institutions globally. Our Platform Engineering function is rebuilding our cloud platforms to improve automation, scalability, reliability, security and cost efficiency.
About the Role
As Platform Engineering Lead, you will manage a team of Platform Engineers and take accountability for the reliable operation and continuous improvement of our cloud environments. Working with the Head of Platform Engineering and teams including Security, FinOps, PMO and Technical Operations, you will lead delivery across cloud migrations, deployments, service operations and platform improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop a high-performing Platform Engineering team, setting priorities, allocating work and addressing skills or resourcing gaps.
Take accountability for the successful delivery and operation of secure, resilient cloud environments, including services involving third-party providers.
Plan and coordinate resources for cloud migrations, upgrades, deployments and other project-based work across a globally distributed team.
Ensure monitoring, alerting, incidents, problems and events are managed effectively and in line with agreed service levels.
Oversee application deployments and service changes, ensuring change management processes are followed and delivery is appropriately resourced.
Work with Cloud FinOps to identify and implement opportunities to improve platform cost efficiency.
Drive documentation, knowledge sharing, automation and continuous improvement across Platform Engineering.
What You’ll Bring
Demonstrable experience leading people and delivery within platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure or a comparable technical operations environment.
Hands-on experience delivering or supporting cloud migrations and containerized environments.
Practical experience with one or more of AWS, Kubernetes, Flux CD, Azure DevOps, or PostgreSQL on Amazon Aurora.
Strong understanding of cloud operations, automation, monitoring, incident management and Well-Architected Framework principles.
Working knowledge of database and application server architecture, operating system administration and shell scripting.
Strong planning, problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical audiences.
Experience working effectively across time zones as part of a globally distributed team.
Desirable:
ITIL v3 or v4 Foundation certification.
Relevant AWS or Microsoft Azure certification.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management or CI/CD tooling, such as Terraform or Puppet.
Experience working in the public or education sector.
Work Setup
This is a UK-based remote role. You will work with colleagues across multiple time zones, and occasional travel is expected, typically a few days per quarter. The role falls within Tribal’s On-Call and Out of Hours Working Policy, so some out-of-hours work may be required and will be compensated in line with the policy.
