About the Role
Food safety is built through consistent controls: ingredients need to be handled correctly, allergens must be documented, kitchens need reliable procedures, and every exception needs to be investigated before it creates a larger problem.
As a Food Safety and Compliance Officer, you will support safe and compliant food operations across catering and service environments. You will carry out inspections, review food safety documentation, monitor hygiene standards, support specialist dietary requirements, and help teams translate regulatory requirements into practical routines.
The role combines site-based checks with documentation and advisory work. One day may involve reviewing temperature records and kitchen procedures, while another could focus on investigating an allergen concern, updating a compliance register, or helping a catering team prepare for an inspection.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine food hygiene and operational compliance inspections.
- Review food safety management procedures and identify areas requiring improvement.
- Monitor temperature-control, storage, cleaning, and food-handling records.
- Check that allergen information is accurate, current, and clearly communicated.
- Support the safe management of specialist and medically required diets.
- Maintain food safety registers, inspection records, and compliance documentation.
- Investigate reported food-safety concerns and record findings accurately.
- Track corrective actions arising from inspections and internal reviews.
- Review kitchen and catering procedures against established standards.
- Support implementation of HACCP-based controls.
- Assist with food safety and hygiene training for operational staff.

- Prepare compliance summaries and inspection reports.
- Maintain records relating to training, certifications, and required checks.
- Assist with internal audits and preparation for external inspections.
- Support improvements to nutrition, allergen, and catering-control processes.
- Advise operational teams on practical food-safety requirements.
- Keep up to date with relevant Scottish and UK food safety guidance.
