Second Steps Day Nursery is opening an exciting new setting in Hatfield Peverel and we are looking for an experienced Deputy Manager to join us in a genuine development role, with a clear pathway into the Nursery Manager position within approximately six months.
This role has been deliberately designed to allow the successful candidate time to fully understand and embed our ethos, expectations, and ways of working, while playing a key role in establishing strong foundations, ready to step into the Nursery Manager role.
Responsibilities
As Deputy Manager (Manager-in-Training), you will:
- Work closely with the leadership team to support the set-up and launch of the nursery
- Help establish high-quality practice, routines, systems, and team culture
- Lead by example, supporting and mentoring staff to deliver outstanding Early Years provision
- Embed our ethos, values, and expectations into everyday practice
- Take increasing responsibility for leadership, operations, and compliance as the setting grows
- Progress into the Nursery Manager role, subject to successful performance and nursery development
This is a role ideal for an experienced practitioner or manager who wants the opportunity to shape a setting from the ground up and grow with it.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has significant experience in an Early Years leadership role (Deputy Manager or Manager)
- Holds a relevant Level 3 qualification (Level 5 or above desirable)
- Has a strong understanding of the EYFS, safeguarding, and Ofsted requirements
- Is confident leading teams and maintaining high standards of practice
- Shares our passion for creating a nurturing, high-quality environment for children, families, and staff
- Is motivated by progression and ready to step into a Nursery Manager role within approximately 6 months.
