Job Purpose
To prepare large vehicles and trucks for painting and refurbishment by carrying out shot blasting, surface preparation, and associated tasks to a high standard, ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation & Shot Blasting
- · Carry out shot blasting and abrasive blasting on large vehicles, truck bodies, chassis, and components
- · Prepare surfaces by cleaning, degreasing, sanding, masking, and removing old paint, rust, or corrosion
- · Ensure surfaces are correctly prepared to specification prior to painting or coating
Quality & Finish
- · Inspect prepared surfaces to ensure they meet required standards
- · Identify surface defects, corrosion, or damage and report issues to supervisors
- · Work to job sheets, drawings, and customer specifications
Health, Safety & Environment
- · Operate shot blasting and preparation equipment safely and correctly
- · Follow all health and safety procedures, including use of PPE and extraction systems
- · Maintain a clean and safe working area at all times
- · Comply with environmental controls relating to waste, dust, and materials
Equipment & Maintenance
- · Set up, operate, and shut down blasting and preparation equipment
- · Carry out basic maintenance and daily checks on tools and machinery
- · Report equipment faults or maintenance needs promptly
Teamwork & Productivity
- · Work effectively as part of a workshop team
- · Support painters and other workshop staff to meet production deadlines
- · Maintain high standards of workmanship and productivity

Skills & Experience
Essential
- · Understanding of surface preparation standards for painting or refurbishment
- · Ability to work with large vehicles, plant, or heavy components
- · Good attention to detail and quality
- · Awareness of health and safety requirements in an industrial setting
Desirable
- · Experience working on HGVs, trucks, buses, or large commercial vehicles
- · Experience in shot blasting, surface preparation, or industrial coating environments
- · Knowledge of paint systems, coatings, or corrosion protection
