Overview of the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scientist to join our growing team, based in Sheffield. The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a relevant field with proven skills in cell culture and molecular biology. We are looking for an individual who wants to be part of an exciting opportunity and contribute to our company culture. You will be enthusiastic, eager to apply your expertise to novel challenges, and capable of operating effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role. While the role primarily involves regular hours, there may be occasional weekend work required.
Key responsibilities
● Maintaining mammalian cell cultures, including passaging and cryopreservation (specifically CHO and HEK lines, among others)
● Designing and conducting experiments to a high standard while maintaining accurate and detailed experimental records
● Communicating updates on project status to the project leader and wider team
● Leading contribution to scientific reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and the presentation of data at international conferences
● Contributing to high-level project planning, providing intellectual input and generating ideas for new research directions
● Troubleshooting complex technical issues and adapting experimental setups for novel applications
Profile & Qualifications
● PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. Biological or Life Sciences, Biotechnology)
● Deep knowledge and hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture (industry experience is highly desirable)
● Experience in molecular biology, including molecular cloning and protein detection
● Familiarity with SOPs, lab documentation, and health & safety compliance
● Ability to work independently, lead sub-projects, and thrive within a collaborative team
● Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
