Newport City Council is expanding its residential care leadership team and is seeking a dedicated Night Care Assistant Home Manager to join our children’s residential services across Newport and Raglan. This is a vital leadership role focused on ensuring consistent, high-quality care and safeguarding throughout night hours, providing stability and reassurance for children and young people.

Our Homes
We are developing small homes that provide individualised care for one or two young people. This night-based leadership role is key to ensuring that children feel safe, secure, and supported during evenings and overnight periods.
You will lead a team delivering trauma-informed care and attachment-based approaches, maintaining a calm, nurturing environment that promotes emotional regulation and positive outcomes.
About the Role
As a Night Care Assistant Home Manager, you will take responsibility for the safe, effective running of the home during night shifts, ensuring continuity of care and strong leadership outside of daytime management hours.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the night-time operation of the home, acting as the senior decision-maker on shift.- Provide hands-on leadership and supervision to night staff, ensuring high standards of care and practice.
- Ensure children’s safety, wellbeing, and emotional needs are met throughout the night.
- Respond effectively to incidents, safeguarding concerns, or emergencies, making sound independent decisions.
- Maintain a calm and structured environment that supports positive sleep routines and emotional security.
- Complete and oversee night reports, documentation, and handovers to ensure seamless communication with day staff.
- Undertake risk assessments and dynamic decision-making in line with policies and procedures.
- Support with staff development, mentoring, and reflective practice during quieter periods.
- Ensure the home remains compliant with regulations, policies, and the Statement of Purpose.
- Contribute to rota planning and resource management specific to night cover.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
Experienced in residential childcare or a similar setting, with confidence working overnight.- Resilient, calm, and adaptable, particularly in managing challenging situations at night.
- Skilled in trauma-informed care and attachment-based approaches.
- QCF Level 3 qualified in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), with willingness to work towards Level 5.
- Able to work independently and lead a team without onsite senior management presence.
- Highly organised, with strong record-keeping and communication skills.
- Passionate about supporting children with complex needs to feel safe and secure.
- Flexible and reliable, with a commitment to working night shifts on a rota basis.
