We are recruiting a Live-in Personal Care Assistant (PA) for our client, a recent Business and Management graduate from the University of Kent, who is living at home in Surbiton and deciding what comes next.
This isn't just about providing care. It's about enabling a young graduate to live independently, pursue his interests, travel, socialise and explore his future career and personal goals.
Location: Surbiton, London
Start Date: ASAP
Rota: Live-in – 7 days on / 7 days off, alternating day and waking-night shifts, with split shifts and additional overtime as required
Pay: £246 per day – £1,722 per week worked, plus agreed overtimeHoliday: 5.6 weeks pro rata
No previous care experience is required. Full bespoke training will be provided.
Meet our client
Our client recently completed his Business and Management degree and is now considering where his interests, ambitions and degree might take him next.
He has Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy and uses a powered wheelchair. He requires practical assistance with aspects of daily living but knows exactly how he likes things done and will guide you as you learn his routines.
Personality and shared interests are important. He's a big football fan and also enjoys basketball, rugby and tennis. He's a huge Star Wars fan, likes Marvel and DC, enjoys stand-up comedy, travelling, socialising and being spontaneous.

"I'm a huge fan of the Star Wars franchise and also like Marvel and DC. I'm also a lover of sports – mainly football, but also basketball, rugby, tennis etc."
"One of the things I value most from having my care team is the ability to be spontaneous. I may decide with relatively short notice to spend time at home in Surbiton, travel or go somewhere else, and I would need you to come with me."
"You will be given plenty of training and I will always let you know if I want something done differently. It will take time for you to become familiar with everything, so don't worry about making mistakes."
What would you actually be doing?
Your role is to provide the practical support that allows our client to get on with his life. One day you might be supporting him at home; another could involve football, meeting friends, an event or travelling.
You'll assist with:
- Personal care and daily living
- Socialising, activities and travel
- Driving his adapted vehicle
- Cooking and food preparation, including dietary requirements and allergies
- Shopping, cleaning and household tasks
- Therapy, stretches or hydrotherapy, with full training provided
- Practical organisation to support his independence
Who are we looking for?
This could particularly suit a recent graduate looking for something different for a year or two while considering their own next move. An interest or background in Business, Management, Marketing, Finance or Entrepreneurship could give you plenty in common, but a degree isn't essential.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, positive, sociable and easy to get along with
- Flexible and comfortable with spontaneous changes of plan
- Proactive, organised and able to use their initiative
- Physically fit enough for the practical elements of the role
- Calm, patient, mature and responsible
- Comfortable cooking, cleaning and shopping
- Clean, tidy and respectful of the accommodation provided
- Fluent in English with good communication skills
- Willing to provide additional holiday or sickness cover where possible
Driving is essential
You must hold a full, clean UK driving licence and be over 21 for insurance purposes, with no points, accidents or claims within the past five years, as you will drive our client's adapted vehicle.
